FYI I'm not posting this to start another manual vs. auto war. So let's just give a chuckle at Monkey's comments and move on. :)

Will we see a fake manual in a few years? I mean... like there is fake noise to keep regulations and stuff. But in transmission form, a DCT with a gated shifter that simulates changes. It changes gears when you move the lever, but deep down it's a computer making it all for you, pretty much just following orders like a paddle shifter.
I hope no company reads this.

Was he expecting there to be a manual option?

I drive a manual and always did, and I my love/hate ratio is not favorable. I hate it 75% of the time, but I only realize it when I drive my wife's 328 with the fantastic ZF box.
I'm either masochist or stupid.
Seriously, it is my last manual car.

He can't seriously be surprised. The manual was phased out of the Gallardo except for the Balboni special edition. It's not what buyers want, and if you can afford a Lambo I'm sure you can option one in, off the books.

A gated shifter would be ridiculous. paddle shifters are much better.

Look up the Saab Sensonic. There was a shifter like normal manuals, but the clutch was completely computer controlled. I do wonder how well it would work with modern tech.

What car? There are horrible manuals, just as there are horrible slushboxes.

Focus ST
It's great, one of the best shifter/clutch feel ever, but my commute consists of crap and stop and go

I drive a manual and have for years. Not once do I get into an auto and think, "this is ok"

Ah, been there, wanted to harm myself too. Would've traded a kidney for any automatic at that point.
I moved somewhere else though.

Oh! I had completely forgotten about this. I've read about it years ago. Pretty much this.

Yeah, I think Pistonheads or somewhere had a review a while back, and their verdict was that it was ... rubbish.

Exactly!
But that's the thing. These days they simulate what they can't sell anymore. For example:
Cars are too noisy and the rich people who buy them don't like it neither do regulations, but it's missed during spirited driving -> Simulate a noisy car from the inside on sport mode, while outside it sounds nothing special
Hidraulic Steering is considered "1970's tech" but some people complain electric sterring lacks feel -> Simulate the weight on electric steering
Leather is heavy and too expensive but you can't sell a 40k car without it -> Use imitation, call it eco-leather and make people happy
So, in future years people will require the feel of shifting gears, but manufacturers won't do it because people don't shift gears properly. Next step is to simulate it.
